Honest, itemised reference ranges for robotic mastectomy, oncoplastic lumpectomy, and immediate reconstruction at CK Birla Hospital, New Delhi - with UK and US comparisons and what is (and is not) included in a package quote.
A note before the numbers
These are reference ranges, not fixed quotes
Every case is different. What appears below is honest orientation - what a private-tier robotic breast surgery package tends to cost in India today. The number written on your quote is the number you pay, and it is issued only after the case is reviewed.
What quotes reflect
The specific operation planned, the anaesthesia time, the length of stay, and any add-ons flagged after imaging review.
What does not change
The surgeon fee, robotic OR fee, and hospital-stay day rate are fixed on the day the quote is issued - no discharge-invoice surprises.
What triggers a re-quote
Significant clinical changes discovered on pre-op imaging, or a planned procedure escalation (for example, bilateral discovered after biopsy).
Reference packages
Three common paths, priced in ranges
Most patients fall into one of these three shapes. The ranges assume a private-tier robotic operating theatre and a private-room stay - the standard the surgery is delivered at.
Package A
Robotic oncoplastic lumpectomy
₹2.5-4.0 L
≈ £2,400-£3,800·≈ $3,000-$4,800
Includes
Surgeon + anaesthetist fees + robotic OR time
Sentinel-node biopsy where indicated
1-2 nights private-room hospital stay
First in-person follow-up + post-op medications
Package B
Robotic nipple- or skin-sparing mastectomy
₹4.5-6.5 L
≈ £4,300-£6,200·≈ $5,400-$7,800
Includes
Surgeon + anaesthetist fees + robotic OR time
Frozen-section pathology (required for nipple-sparing)
Sentinel-node biopsy through the same incision
2-3 nights private-room hospital stay
First in-person follow-up + post-op medications
Package C
Mastectomy + immediate robotic LD reconstruction
₹7.5-10.5 L
≈ £7,100-£10,000·≈ $9,000-$12,600
Includes
Everything in Package B
Robotic latissimus dorsi flap harvest through the axilla
Immediate reconstruction in the same anaesthesia
Extended 3-4 nights private-room stay
Additions and case-specific items
What can add to the base package
Not every case needs every one of these. They are listed so a quote sheet is not the first place you see them.
ICG-Firefly guided excision
~₹50,000
Added when the target lesion is non-palpable - typical for screen-detected cancers, DCIS, and post-chemo residuals
Bilateral procedure
~1.5× the unilateral quote
For synchronous bilateral disease or contralateral risk-reducing surgery
Additional pre-op imaging
₹15-40,000
Only if the imaging you arrive with is not adequate for the planned operation - most patients do not need this
Genomic / MammaPrint / Oncotype
At panel cost
Quoted separately when clinically indicated; not routinely bundled
International comparison
How the same operation prices across countries
Robotic nipple-sparing mastectomy with immediate LD flap reconstruction - a like-for-like comparison against private-tier quotes elsewhere.
🇮🇳
India (this programme)
£8,000 - £11,000
Package C total, before international-patient logistics.
🇬🇧
United Kingdom (private)
£15,000 - £25,000+
NHS covers the same operation without a fee but with waits typically 6-14 months.
🇺🇸
United States (out-of-pocket)
$50,000 - $100,000+
Insurance rarely covers robot-assisted breast surgery in full even with in-network hospitals.
International-patient package
What we handle around the surgery itself
For patients travelling from the UK, US, Gulf, or elsewhere, the operation is not the only cost - and not the only thing that needs coordinating. The international package covers the logistics so the family can focus on the recovery.
Airport pickup and drop, and ground transport to and from the hospital
Serviced accommodation for the patient and one companion for the stay + a short recovery window
Language interpreter on request (Arabic, French, and Bengali handled routinely)
Visa invitation letter and treatment-plan documentation for embassy submission
Pre-arrival itemised pro-forma invoice so a treasury or insurer sees the quote before you travel
International-package pricing depends on the length of stay and accommodation tier selected. A worked-out itemised quote arrives with your surgical proposal.
Cost questions
What patients ask about paying for this
Honest answers on insurance, currency, hidden costs, and how quotes are put together. Anything case-specific is best raised in the consultation.
Why is robotic breast cancer surgery so much less expensive in India?
The doctors are trained to the same fellowship standards, the da Vinci robot is the same platform, and the anaesthesia, pathology, and nursing standards are those of a tertiary-care private hospital. What differs is the local cost base - salaries, real estate, and hospital overheads run at a fraction of UK or US levels - so the same operation, delivered to the same specification, arrives at a materially lower price.
What's included in the package quote?
Surgeon fee, anaesthetist fee, robotic operating theatre time, sentinel-node biopsy where indicated, frozen-section pathology (required for nipple-sparing), a private-room hospital stay covering the expected two to three nights, standard post-op medications, and the first in-person follow-up. ICG-Firefly guided excision is added when the case is non-palpable. International-patient packages add accommodation, airport pickup, ground transport, and interpreter support.
Does insurance cover this?
Indian private insurance and PSU cashless panels vary case-by-case; we help patients navigate their policy where possible. UK NHS does not cover treatment abroad, and only a small number of UK private policies reimburse international care - you would typically pay upfront and claim afterwards, if at all. US insurance almost never covers overseas surgery.
How does the price compare with the UK and US?
For a like-for-like case - robotic nipple-sparing mastectomy with immediate LD flap reconstruction - a private-tier UK quote typically starts around £15,000-£25,000 and can run higher. In the US, out-of-pocket estimates for the same operation cluster in the $50,000-$100,000 range. In India, the same procedure sits in the £8,000-£11,000 range even after flights, accommodation, and logistics. NHS waiting lists for equivalent reconstructive care regularly run six months and longer.
Are there hidden costs I should ask about?
The honest answer: pre-op imaging done outside the hospital (extra MRI or PET-CT if your local scans are not adequate), any additional pathology such as onco-gene testing, and downstream chemotherapy or radiotherapy if your treatment plan needs them. All of these are quoted separately at the time so there is no surprise on the discharge invoice.
How does the payment work?
Most patients pay a deposit at admission and settle the balance at discharge, in INR or by international wire transfer. Card payments in USD, GBP and EUR are accepted. For international patients, we send an itemised pro-forma invoice before you travel so the treasury and any co-payer see exactly what is committed.
When do I get a final quote?
After the initial case review. Once we have your imaging, pathology and any prior treatment records, the team can quote against the specific operation planned - a robotic lumpectomy is quoted differently to a robotic mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. Reference ranges on this page are for orientation; the number written on your quote is the number you pay.
Send your reports for a quote you can act on
Reference ranges are a start. A written quote against your actual case is the number you plan around - typically returned within 2-3 working days of receiving your imaging and pathology.
